For our January 2020 Meet Up we decided to check out the famous Due Amici Pizzeria, located close to Suramericana Metro station.

The pizzeria is very popular. It’s a good idea to come early or you’ll have to wait for a table. For lunch they only offer sandwiches, for dinner they also have think crust pizza. Opening hours are 10 am – 4 pm for lunch and 5 – 11 pm for dinner, Sunday 5 – 9 pm.

We were a group of 7 people this time. Everyone loved the pizza but… This is what our foodies said:

Silvia:

I’m a big pizza fan. I lived in Italy for a while so I’m a tough judge when it comes to pizza and pasta. I haven’t found many places in Medellin that know how to make a decent Italian style pizza but Due Amici is one of the few. I ordered a pizza with one half Fiore (zucchini stuffed with cream cheese & anchovy) and the other half Shiitake & Panceta. Both were really good. The shiitake mushrooms were fresh. The dough was thin and crunchy. The pizza was big, some people shared one, but I had one for myself. I paid about 36.000 COP for the pizza. I added some spice to my pizza with their chili infused olive oil. The pizza was really delicious. The only downside of this restaurant is the service is really slow. It took them about an hour to get the pizzas out and then there was a mix up with one of the 5 pizzas we had ordered. Nonetheless I would definitely come back here.

Brian:

Due Amici is one of my favourite spots to go to when I have time to unwind, relax and enjoy good conversation with friends. And once the crispy thin crust pizza comes out, it doesn’t take long for it to disappear: the 8 slice portions are generous for one person, I think 2 pizzas for 3 people is probably a perfect amount. I ordered half of my pizza with fresh (extremely fresh) shiitake mushrooms and panceta, and the other half with zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta and anchovies. The quality of the ingredients are what makes the pizzas special for me. I topped it at the table with some of their Ají Yuquitania, a Colombian chili powder with a smokey flavor and strong afterbite, as well as some ají infused olive oil. Everything was delicious, and I always leave craving a couple other flavors that will have to wait for next time..

Sandy and Jeanette:

We visited this pizzeria for the first time tonight with the Medellin Foodies Group monthly gathering. The restaurant is small and in what seems to be a reasonably safe area. We were the first to arrive from the group and the wait staff was quick to get us menus and ask what we wanted to drink. At the time there were maybe 2 other tables with guests. As our other guests arrived the staff did come and add additional menus and took their drink orders. As we sat reviewed the menu and talked while waiting on others, the restaurant started to fill up. Looks like about 8 tables in total. Our group ended up with 7 people. When we ordered we were informed that they did not have certain menu items which would have been nice to know up front. The menu is very interesting and artisanal. We did a combination pizza of Vegetales and Panceta + Shitake. A total of 5 pizzas were ordered for the table. Let’s just say 45 minutes before we saw our pizzas. Granted they wanted to make sure all of them came out at the same time. Plan on a long wait if you have a large group ordering multiple pizzas, but it was worth it. The pizza had thin crust, very fresh vegetables, (the flowers of the zucchini) stuffed with cheese. They have an olive oil with a little chili in it that really was delightful. The staff could have been more attentive and ask if we needed more drinks. We will give them a second try. Service may have been slow, but excellent pizza.

Shar:

I really enjoyed my evening at Due Amici. Good selection of interesting pizzas and there is the option of doing half-half if you can’t decide which one to have. I opted for half margarita (good) and half spinach and blue cheese (excellent). The pizzas are thin-crust and there are lots of veggie options. It was full on a Tuesday night, service was slow but friendly, and the pizzas were worth waiting for. Generous size for one person, I couldn’t quite finish mine! Nice outdoor seating. I would highly recommend.

Amérika and Marcela:

We shared a pizza with one half Rugula & Serano and one half Margarita. The wait is totally worth it. Seeing how they prepare your pizza and knowing that it is prepared at the time of ordering is awesome. You know you are eating something fresh.
